Elon Musk

Elon Musk
Elon Musk is one of the most successful people in the world. His successes range from electric cars to space travel. This book talks about Elon’s passions and skills, among which is to help humankind save themselves from destruction. This goal caused him to work on solar power, electric cars, space exploration, and led to his tremendous success.
  1. Elon Musk managed to succeed twice in the tech industry, something that most tech entrepreneurs can not do even once. Musk is different in his motivations from a typical businessman. He puts first: the desire to help humankind with a deep empathy. He is concerned about fossil fuel use and the threat of asteroids to earth, and relocating humanity to Mars.
  2. Through his extreme determination to get things done, Musk oftentimes sets very ambitious goals, which are sometimes not realistic. He’s been also known to assign incredible workloads, and verbally abusing his employees.
  3. Musk doesn’t see other priorities, at all, other than changing the history of the world. He once publicly berated an employee who chose to attend the birth of his child, instead a company event.
  4. People respect Musk for his work ethic. People know it’s what brings them success. Musk gas a gruelling weekly schedule. He spends Monday morning to Tuesday night at SpaceX, then flies to Silicon Valley to work at Tesla during Wednesday and Thursday. He then flies back to L.A. He truly believes in what he’s doing, to be able to continue such a lifestyle.
  5. His upbringing was difficult, in South Africa. He did not have many friends. Musk’s parents separated. He chose to live with his dad, to give him company, even though it was still very tough to do this, as there was turmoil between them. He was bullied in school regularly, and once even had to miss a whole week of school due to the severe beating he received.
  6. Musk withdrew into books, to avoid the hardships of everyday life. Musk had a photographic memory. He read two encyclopedias and remembered “everything”. His favorite book was: “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. This book taught him that it’s easy to answer a question, but knowing what the right question in the first place, was hard.
  7. Musk was learning Entrepreneurship when he was young. We was already selling his video game Blastar, for $500, when he was just 12 years old. In high school, he already formed very strong opinions about solar power, colonizing other planets, paperless banking, and space rockets.
  8. Elon escaped military service in South Africa, by immigrating to Canada, although he originally wanted to go to the US. He attended Queens University, where his confidence began to soar, and his character took shape. He became even more ambitious. He began participating in public speaking contests, studying business, and wooed the woman of his dreams: Justine Wilson, who ended up becoming the mother of his 6 sons.
  9. At first Justine had no interest in Elon. She stood him up for their first date, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He was persistent, and through a friend of hers, found out her favourite ice cream flavour. He then showed up with it, at Justine’s place. This success-through-determination became Musk’s permanent approach in all areas of life.
  10. Musk spent 2 years at Queens University in Canada, but transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he continued to do well. He became very comfortable with his fellow physics students, some of which proved to be valuable both personally and financially. Elon and his close friend — Adeo Rossi, rented a 14-bedroom house, and hosted parties there, charging a $5 admission. One night Musk even made enough money for a full months rent.
